Bombay has been steadily upgrading its pizza scene over the past several years. As a sucker for good pizza, I believe pizza can never be bad. It's either great or good. As one of the kickstarters of Bombay's pizza revolution, Mangii has been my staple for the area for as long as I can remember. Although the quality is a tad better at Mia next door, Mangii certainly takes on in terms of prices and quantity.
It's aptly located across the lake right by JVLR, while the traffic rarely affects the ambiance of both, the al fresco and A/C sections. You are always greeted and served well and prompt. Between this and the only surviving other outlet at Khar, this one beats the Khar one by a mile and a half in terms of everything - ambiance, service and quality of food. Pizzas are crisp, full of flavor, ample sauce and toppings of whichever you choose from. So the difference lies with the other items. Their breakfast fare is decent enough. Benedict made well, pancakes slightly dense but passable.
Appetizers that are worth your while: Cajun chicken, Baked Jalapenos, Poppers and Crostinis. Pastas: Siciliano, Orecchiette Pesto (one of the best I have had), Spinach Ravioli (dad loved it as well). The Fricassee crepe and Pollo Lombardy are the two best mains I have had here. All this with wine pairings make for an excellent meal.
Certainly enough, there are pizzerias popping all around the city. But I can safely place Mangii among the pioneers in the city and they will remain that way.
